Annika Sörenstam, widely regarded as the best female golfer of all time, will compete in two weeks in the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational at Midland Country Club.

Sörenstam and fellow Swedish golfer Madelene Sagström revealed on Tuesday that they will compete in the Dow GLBI from July 10-16.

They will compete against 72 other two-woman teams for a $2.5 million reward. Sörenstam’s first LPGA Tour regular-season competitive start since the Gainbridge LPGA in 2021. Annika just competed in the USGA’s 2022 US Women’s Open.

“The Dow GLBI continues to attract the biggest names on the LPGA Tour,” said Dow GLBI Executive Director Chris Chandler.

“Having Annika and Madelene a part of our field gives fans the opportunity to watch a golf legend play alongside one of the most exciting young players in the game, while experiencing one of the most unique events on the Tour.”

Sörenstam has more than 90 professional wins, 72 of which have come on the LPGA Tour, including 10 majors. She still holds the record for most Player of the Year accolades with eight, and is still the only woman to shoot a round of 59 in competition.

Sörenstam, a member of both the World Golf Hall of Fame and the LPGA Hall of Fame, is the first LPGA player to win the Money List, Player of the Year, and the Vare Trophy in the same year five times.

Her successful career also included a PGA Tour debut at the Bank of America Colonial. Since LPGA founder Babe Zaharias qualified for the Los Angeles Open in 1947, this was the first time a woman had competed on the PGA TOUR.

Sörenstam, an eight-time European Solheim Cup squad member, captained the European Solheim Cup in 2017, in which Sagstrom was a Captain’s Selection.

“I’m super excited to tee it up alongside my friend Madelene for the Dow GLBI,” Sörenstam said.

“She’s got a positive attitude and I’ve enjoyed practicing and spending time with her. I’ve heard great things about this tournament from my friends on the LPGA Tour. Team events are always fun and I’m looking forward to the experience.

“Annika is one of the greatest Solheim Cup players in history, and teaming up with her for the Dow GLBI will be a thrill of a lifetime,” continued Sagström.

“We have begun practicing at home in Orlando, and we can’t wait to tee-it-up in Midland in July!”
